UN:Me: A Psychological Thriller Merging Silent Hill with Social Deduction Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation revealed several intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience appears to fuse together the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven core of Among Us.

"This is a unique game where a young woman containing several personalities within her must escape from a maze of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Within her reside four distinct souls, all possessing unique fears and drives. These entities can seize control at will, unleashing their deep-seated terrors upon her without warning.

Judging by revealed footage, much of the action unfolds within a eerie medical facility, while additional clips show the main character exploring a desolate chapel.

A World of Individual Horror

"What makes you fearful of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Small rooms. Authority figures. Elements that seem trivial to others can trigger something primal within us. This game explores that idea — fears that are unique to each person."

The central mechanic revolves around controlling the persona that surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will switch against your will during gameplay. During exploration, each soul's anxieties become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Eerie Aesthetics and a Deadly Choice

Initially, UN:Me shares striking visual similarities with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is filled with nurses all sporting the same face, with unnervingly wide grins. Figures in the lobby have large flowers where their heads are. Floral motifs are an ever-present theme, contrasting organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a singular twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "real" one. "Each of the personas asserts that the physical form belongs to them," notes a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a soul is fake, they are forced to destroy it. However, because every entity can lie or hide the truth, it is very easy to choose incorrectly.

"Perhaps you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," a voice states. "The last one standing might be a fake. Either way, your decisions are final."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is available to follow on platforms.
