The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Styling David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind a series of unforgettable images worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.
His reputation was built on his defined forms and performative fashion, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."
Price's death comes just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "dress" once worn by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price moved to London during the sixties to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in shaping body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including various looks for her American tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
