Spurs Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank

Tottenham Hotspur supporters who booed keeper Vicario were told later "they cannot be true Tottenham fans" by boss Thomas Frank.

Tottenham let in a pair of scores in the opening six minutes to fall 2-1 to Fulham, marking their 10th top-flight at home loss of 2025.

However the primary talking point was the visitors' second score when Vicario gave away the ball far beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a long ball and carried the ball near the sideline.

But, rather than kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear, but slipped as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was collected by Josh King.

King passed the ball off to Welsh midfield player Harry Wilson, who curled a strike into the goal from the touchline measured at 36.6 yards.

Seconds afterwards when the ball went to the keeper again, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those booing sessions really angered the manager.

"I heard a few of our fans reportedly jeered the situation and jeered after, which, in my opinion is completely unacceptable," the Danish manager stated about the fans' response to his shot-stopper.

"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs supporters that do that. Fair enough booing following the game, no problem, but when we are playing, we are backing one another, we are behind each other moving ahead."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a fourth-minute advantage prior to Wilson's strike – with Kudus scoring for Tottenham in an better second period performance.

Former top-flight keeper Hart stated that the second goal was "totally preventable".

"I do appreciate the fans' disappointment," Hart added. "I know the role Vicario is performing. He is a excellent squad member, he's a real figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.

"He was heavily involved in what turned out to be the decisive score."

Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario After the Match

Italy international Vicario is in his 3rd campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said following the game that he had to take the criticism.

"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he commented.

"My aim was to clear the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a poor way. That made an more difficult challenge to climb."

He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on us to stay increasingly composed, to concentrate on ourselves. We are lacking in composure and calmness to overturn outcomes. This match is a bad loss and it's hard to take."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

In spite of the keeper's error, it was not an easy goal for Wilson to convert.

In fact it was the second most distant Premier League score of the season – following Tyler Adams' forty-three point three metre goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly too came on Saturday.

Wilson said he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson shooting – which was 5 seconds after the clearance.

"I felt like the goalkeeper was away from the box for a long time," Wilson remarked.

"It amazed me none of the defenders went back to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little additional opportunity. After that it was solely about attempting to achieve the right connection and place it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it left my boot, that it was heading in."

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

While the keeper's mistake led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to continue their home struggles.

The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a joint team statistic matching nineteen ninety-four and 2003.

The side still have home games against Frank's former club Brentford and title holders Liverpool to play before the close of the year.

Only one of those victories have come after the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a mountain to climb," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to work against you as well – the first was a redirected attempt, the next is a error from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost an additional match. Each fixture has a unique story, today we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to keep working. The second half was much better and with luck something we can use to develop."

Spurs have lost 4 consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

And they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the Premier League – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to 2003-04).

Former Fulham midfield player Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the stick," Murphy remarked. "He's accepted a prestigious job at a huge team with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been disappointing and they have to improve {quickly|
