Two months subsequent to being handed a quarter-century plus sentence for trying to “eradicate” the nation's political system, ex-president Jair Bolsonaro finally appears jail-bound.

The found-guilty plotter – who's been subject to residential detention in his mansion while a set of judicial steps and petitions unfold – is broadly anticipated to be jailed in the near future, during increasing talk that he will be transferred to a notorious high-security prison.
Historical Comments on Convicts
Throughout Bolsonaro’s long political career, the conservative former soldier showed minimal sympathy for the country's prison population.
“Why should we give those scoundrels a comfortable existence?” he previously wondered. “They ought to simply be messed, period. That's my opinion.”
At another time, Bolsonaro declared: “Unless you desire to end up in prison, the only thing required is to avoid sexual assault, kidnap or rob.”
Incarceration Facility Speculation
Yet the idea of Bolsonaro himself winding up in the Papuda maximum security prison in Brasília has horrified backers, four of whom this week inspected the prison in an obvious attempt to prevent the high court from sending him there.
Senator Lucas, a politician from Bolsonaro’s Liberal party who was one of the visitors, stated he predicted the elderly politician to be jailed in the coming fortnight and feared his assigned prison could be Papuda.
Lucas claimed Bolsonaro’s serious intestinal issues – the outcome of a near-fatal knife attack during the 2018 election race – signified it would be risky to keep the ex-leader there. “His condition is extremely serious. He won’t be able to manage if they move him to Papuda … It will be awful,” he commented, who also worried about packed cells and the condition of prison meals.
While visiting Papuda, Lucas noted witnessing cells accommodating four dozen inmates: “That is virtually one meter squared per detainee.

Not a soul wishes Bolsonaro to lack food or for him to have to sleep on the floor. We wish him to get respectful handling – but respectful care behind bars. He must not carry on being his personal jailer for his lifetime.”
The congressman noted how Bolsonaro supporters, who have for a long time celebrating the severe treatment of convicts, had unexpectedly realized to their entitlements. “Just now has the conservative fringe – which has consistently argued that basic rights are not for lawbreakers – opted to inspect a jail to learn what circumstances are truly like,” he said.
“Bolsonaro is a offender,” the congressman maintained, but that did not mean he earned “humiliating, degrading handling”.
Potential Prison Conditions
Despite speculation that Bolsonaro could be moved to Papuda, which now houses about fourteen thousand detainees, his expected assigned facility appears to be a close jail for police officers and other “particular” prisoners known as Papudinha (Small Papuda).
The accommodations are considerably more comfortable than those in the main prison, although still a distant from the luxury Bolsonaro had while living in the impressive leader's home, about a short distance away.
According to information, the room Bolsonaro could anticipate occupy in Papudinha measures about 260 square feet – roughly the size of a couple of car spots – and contains a 12 square meter restroom with a bathing area and a 130 square foot terrace. “He could be permitted to have a television and even a minibar in his cell as long as they were donated by his relatives,” sources indicated.
