Patriots Equal Longest Winning Streak Since Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five TDs this season
The New England Patriots tied their longest winning run from the Brady era as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout TreVeyon Henderson led the way with three TDs as the Patriots claimed an eighth straight win for the initial occasion since legendary quarterback Brady's closing campaign with the franchise in the 2019 season
QB Drake Maye passed for 281 passing yards and a TD, connecting on 25 out of 34 attempts
Victory extends the New England's advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had taken the lead at Foxborough with quarterback Fields scoring a short rushing score to finish the New York's opening drive
But the New England answered in the second quarter as the rookie ran in two short rushing scores before the running back caught a pass from Maye at the back of the end zone midway through the third period to make it 21-7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been excellent for him to keep getting these reps," Maye commented on the rookie. "He aims to be outstanding."
Justin Fields found Metchie in the latter part of the third period to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales booted a two kicks in the final period as the Patriots closed out the win
