Mario's Galactic Adventure Preview Debuts, Revealing Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Actors
The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the first full-length trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie on Wednesday. The reveal happened in a special Nintendo Direct that highlighted the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this latest chapter will transport Mario to the far corners of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Drawing from Beloved Titles
Much like the Wii-era games that serve as its inspiration, Mario will leave behind the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to explore outer space. During his grand adventure, he will reunite with some well-known personalities, such as the Luma, a fan favorite from the first movie.
However, it seems Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's angry little boy, who reportedly commands metallic abilities. Worth mentioning, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not solely focused on Galaxy-inspired imagery; it also includes nods to further iconic releases like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Celebrity Voice Actors Reprise Roles and Welcome Newcomers
The movie will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. The casting was verified by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the 40th anniversary of the initial Super Mario Bros. release. Beyond the film, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a set of three fresh titles already confirmed for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
