Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
