Labuschagne Left Out from Australian ODI Lineup to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-match ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw earning a shock inclusion.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international side following scoring just one run in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a highest score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The batsman has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now focus on earning a return to the Test side ahead of the Ashes starting in Perth on 21 November.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Changes

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after previously being selected in an ODI squad in 2022.

The left-hander has played 14 Test matches with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia look for a fix to their top-order woes.

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will sit out the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test matches ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from October 29.
