Fury Surges as Former President Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Draws Fierce Backlash

Personalities from both sides of the political aisle and the Hollywood world are coming together to denounce Donald Trump for his remarks in the wake of the shocking deaths of esteemed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

An Inflammatory Online Statement

After the couple were found dead at their Brentwood residence, Trump posted on social media to label the late director as "anguished and struggling". The message, he asserted Reiner's death was "because of the anger he provoked others through his massive, unyielding, and untreatable condition with a mind-crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

The post then pivoted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "unprecedented era of America".

Law Enforcement Update and Detention

Police have since confirmed the arrest of the Reiners' 32-year-old son, Nick, on suspicion of murder in connection with the incident. It is reported his bail was established at a significant amount.

A Wave of Criticism from Public Figures

The response to Trump's words was immediate and scathing.

This is a appalling and despicable comment,” remarked public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who described Reiner a friend, similarly criticized the remarks. She referenced prior comments from Trump regarding the killing of an activist, demanding, "Have you no decency? Is it possible to get any worse?"

The state of California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "He is a sick man."

Echoing this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a despicable piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just lost it. Now implying the Reiners brought on their own demise because they opposed him. So sick."

Rebuke from Within Political Ranks

Some GOP elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene emphasized that the event was "a family tragedy, not about politics or rivals". She also alluded to struggles with addiction and psychological well-being some families face.

Fellow Republican representative, Thomas Massie, called Trump's discourse "inappropriate and disrespectful" considering the nature of the deaths. He openly dared others in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's Legacy and Views on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken critic of Donald Trump. During a past interview, he stated Trump was "mentally unfit" for the office. He had also warned about the risks of authoritarian rule if Trump be reelected to power.

"There is autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "If we fall, there’s a danger that democratic systems collapse around the world."

Regardless of his pointed opposition, Reiner had previously shown "absolute horror" and condemned political violence without reservation after the shooting of another individual.

A Notable Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of historical irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the cover image for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had once recounted the anecdote of the session, noting Trump's demand for "special hairspray" as being photographed on a high-rise overlooking Central Park.
