A Pig's Tale: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the onset of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six-seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.

A New Life

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
